Former FBI director investigating Trump's campaign has died

Mueller's family announced that the former FBI director had died.

No information was given on the cause of death for Mueller, who is investigating allegations that the Russian government influenced the 2016 presidential election in Trump's favor.

US President Donald Trump said on his social media account: “I'm glad Robert Mueller is dead. He won't be able to hurt innocent people anymore.”

From FBI Director to Special Prosecutor

Mueller took over as FBI director just a week before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and held the position until 2013.

Mueller, whose term was extended by former US President Barack Obama, became the second-longest-serving director in FBI history.

Mueller's career has been marked by his work at the FBI and his assignment in 2017 to investigate the Trump campaign's activities during the election process.

Russia investigations in the USA

Following allegations that the Russian government influenced the 2016 presidential election in Trump's favor, Robert Mueller was appointed special prosecutor in 2017 and investigated Trump's campaign's activities during the election process.

After an investigation that lasted about 2.5 years, no evidence was found to convict Trump and the case was closed.

Then in October 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed John Durham as a special prosecutor and began investigating the origins of the Russia investigation.

So far, two people involved in Durham's investigation have admitted to tampering with evidence and trying to incriminate Trump, and it has been revealed that Democrats funded the Steele dossier that led to the Russia investigation.
