Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement through his account on the US social media platform X during the high-level launch event of the Connectivity Agenda Platform organized by the European Union (EU) Commission in Brussels.
“We have made a declaration of intent that the European Investment Bank will provide a financing contribution to the Istanbul Northern Railway Crossing Project.” Minister Uraloğlu stated that this step, embodied by the exchange of documents between EU and Turkish officials, is a new reflection of the common vision developing between Türkiye and the EU in the areas of transport and connectivity.
Marta Kos, member of the EU Commission responsible for enlargement, said in her contribution: “Turkey is an important partner in our efforts to strengthen and diversify Europe's connections with the Middle East and Asia.” gave his assessment.
Stating that he was pleased to meet Minister Uraloğlu for the first bilateral liaison meeting between Turkey and the EU, Kos said: “We agreed to accelerate our work on concrete projects such as the Halkalı-Kapıkule railway line between Istanbul and the Bulgarian border and to explore the possibility of supporting the Istanbul Northern Railway Crossing together with the European Investment Bank.” he said.
