Domestic patent applications increased in Turkey

According to the Ministry's Statement on Domestic Patent and Utility Model Applications for 2025, the increase in the number of applications attracted attention while further strengthening Türkiye's innovation capacity.

Last year, R&D centers took first place in domestic patent and utility model applications with a share of 30 percent. R&D centers were followed by other private sector companies at 16 percent, universities at 15 percent and technology development zones at 6 percent. The remaining applications were submitted by individual applicants and other institutions.

Enterprise-based leaders have been announced

Domestic patent applications have seen a steady increase over the past three years. The number of applications, which was 8,663 in 2023, rose by 18 percent to 10,186 in 2024. During the same period, the number of patent applications continued to rise.

When distributing the applications according to technology fields, the focus was on computer technologies, digital network systems and transportation and transport areas. This image reflected Türkiye's transformation process focused on digitalization and advanced technology.

The 2025 top performers on a company basis in domestic patent and utility model applications were also announced. While Türk Telekom took first place with 921 applications, Turkcell Technology took second place with 612 applications and TOGG took third place with 442 applications. These companies were followed by Arçelik, Sersim İç Dış Ticaret, ROKETSAN, TUSAŞ, Mercedes-Benz Türk, MAN Türkiye and ASELSAN.

The increase in applications showed that Türkiye has strengthened its innovation capacity and achieved significant momentum in line with the goals of the National Technology Move.

The aim is for Türkiye to achieve a stronger position among technology exporting countries.

The protection, effective use and commercialization of intellectual property rights in a wide range of areas, from healthcare to transportation, from defense to education, from industry to space, are critical. The priority objectives in this context include promoting R&D investments, accelerating technology transfer and increasing competitiveness.

It is assessed that the increase in domestic patent applications is not only a numerical increase, but also a concrete indicator of a strategic transformation that increases Türkiye's global competitiveness and strengthens the knowledge-based development model.

In this process, supported by the “National Technology Move” vision, Türkiye aims to achieve a stronger position among countries that commercialize innovative ideas, produce and export technologies.

“Our increase in intellectual property filings continues”

On the other hand, Minister Kacır shared a post about the distribution of domestic patent and utility model applications and the application guides on his NSosyal account.

Kacır congratulated the companies that took first place in the applications and gave the following evaluations:

“Our increase in intellectual property filings continues. In 2025, our domestic patent applications increased by 12 percent year-on-year to 11,394, and our patent registration numbers increased by 10 percent to 3,000,738. Our research and development centers realized 30 percent of domestic patent and utility model applications, our universities accounted for 15 percent, and our technoparks accounted for 6 percent out.

The number of applications in computer technologies and digital network systems shows that change is accelerating in high technology areas. “Our patents give us strength on the way to the National Technology Move.”
