Studies on artificial intelligence, which we now encounter in all areas of life, are growing by expanding their sphere of influence. Their capabilities, which have come to the fore particularly recently in video, graphics and visual content, add to the discussion that many sectors will be affected.
So much so that the question “Does the increasing development of artificial intelligence in the technology sector pose a risk to its inventors?” It begs the question. Layoffs in the technology sector are already being attributed to artificial intelligence.
Layoffs are increasing
Since the start of the coronavirus epidemic, layoffs at tech companies appear to be continuing, albeit at a slowing pace. According to the website Layoffs.fyi, 191 technology companies laid off a total of 263,000 people in the first two months of 2024, while a total of 263,000 people were laid off in 2023.
It said layoffs were down 61 percent compared to the same period last year. However, it is noted that these figures are still at significant levels and some uncertainty remains regarding employment in the technology sector.
A sector-by-sector analysis shows that technology companies operating in the retail sector have made the most layoffs. While the number of layoffs in this sector was 6,000,916 people, the consumer sector was in second place and the financial sector was in third place. This data shows that layoffs in the tech sector are closely related to overall economic conditions.
How effective is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence is considered one of the most important factors in layoffs in technology companies. Many companies, especially Google, are making layoffs because of the technologies they develop. So has AI already become a threat to its own inventors? Will there be a reason to destroy professions in the future? We spoke to technology journalist Ahmet Usta.
“Not the main and main reason”
Usta explains that, first of all, not all layoffs should be due to artificial intelligence. He emphasizes that reasons such as the pandemic and the resulting economic problems should not be ignored:
“We cannot deny that artificial intelligence has played a partial role in global layoffs in recent years, but it would be wrong to say that it is the main and main reason.” “We can say that the economic recession, that the post-pandemic world has fallen into, the environment of global uncertainty, the impact of regional wars and the role of various reasons in global layoffs go far beyond artificial intelligence.”
Even if artificial intelligence takes away systematic professions from humanity, people can still maintain their position at the forefront of artificial intelligence.

How effective will it be in the future?
Looking at the impact of artificial intelligence on jobs in the future, Usta points out that the importance of artificial intelligence in our lives will increasingly increase. So much so that “digital platforms and robotic solutions will increasingly find their way into our lives,” he adds and continues:
“Currently, many of these application areas are still experimental, but it is certain that over time effective solutions will be developed in these areas at a much lower cost compared to humans.”
“There is no doubt that all professional fields in which we have removed humans from the position of thinking, questioning and creating and in which they systematically participate will be fully transferred to artificial intelligence and its applications in the short, medium and long term . “long term.”
“Artificial intelligence expertise is the scarcest and most valuable business area”
On the other hand, Usta states that real know-how in the field of artificial intelligence has now become the scarcest and most valuable business area in the world. He emphasizes that the development in this area and the management of artificial intelligence have become a very valuable profession.
“We must raise generations who have a clear idea of this situation, have a high level of awareness, can motivate themselves and those around them and do not hesitate to act against the unknown with a sense of curiosity and research.” “Even if artificial intelligence systematically taking away professions from humanity, this methodology allows people to continue to maintain their position at the forefront of artificial intelligence.”
