According to Czech media reports, under the draft law drawn up by Prime Minister Andrej Babis and Education Minister Robert Plaga, the use of cell phones and other electronic communication devices will not be allowed in kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and multi-year high schools.
It was explained that the regulation is also intended to cover recess and after-school programs and that students who need to use electronic devices due to medical or special educational needs are exempt from the application.
Child rights ombudsman Martin Benes rejected the proposal, arguing that schools had the power to regulate phone use under their own internal rules.
