Security Minister Mahamadou Sana said in a statement to state television RTB that an attempt to destabilize the country on January 3 had failed.
Sana explained that Damiba, the former leader of the interim government, was behind the coup attempt in question, pointing out that the aim of the coup attempt was to neutralize the leader of the military administration, Ibrahim Traore.
Sana stressed that the situation was under control and said those involved in the incident would be held accountable in court.
Ibrahim Traore, the leader of the current military government, overthrew Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who came to power in a coup, on September 30, 2022.
Damiba also seized power in January 2022 by overthrowing then-President Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
