In its statement, CMB said: “Taking into account the developments in the markets of Borsa İstanbul AŞ, it was decided to prohibit short selling transactions in the stock markets of Borsa İstanbul AŞ from March 2, 2026 until the end of the session on March 6, 2026, in order to ensure the functioning of capital markets in a reliable, transparent and stable environment and to protect the rights and benefits of investors.” Statements were recorded.
The statement emphasized that it was decided to inform investors and investment firms that positions made during the day without pressing the short button and closed on the same day also fall within the scope of the said ban, noting the following:
“We remind that the responsibility for controlling and monitoring compliance with the decision of our Board of Directors lies with the investment institutions. According to Article 17 of the Communiqué on Margin Purchases, Short Sales and Credit and Credit Transactions of Capital Market Instruments, Serial: V, No. 65, the equity protection ratio during the continuation of margin capital market instrument transactions must be at least 35 percent, provided that this is consistent with the intermediary institutions' own risk policies and risk appetite To take into account customer requests as much as possible: “It was decided that it would be flexible in application and provide for a minimum equity ratio of 20 percent throughout the continuation of its transactions until the end of the meeting in March 2026.”
