After Turkey's Environment Agency increased DEKAB to 1.5 lira regardless of the size and material of the packaging on July 1, Trade Ministry teams began inspections at manufacturers, suppliers and retailers across Türkiye.
The teams, citing the DEKAB update, initiated administrative action against companies found to have made unfair price increases.
While the teams affiliated to the Istanbul Provincial Trade Directorate continue their inspections throughout the province, Istanbul Trade Province Director İsmail Menteşe, who participated in the inspections in Kağıthane, said that in the inspections carried out due to the complaints, it was found that some companies unfairly reflected the DEKAB increase in their sales prices.
Menteşe stated that about 100 companies were inspected during the water and mineral water price inspections across Istanbul yesterday and the violations found were forwarded to the Unfair Price Assessment Panel. He said: “Today we are again conducting checks on water and mineral water prices in Istanbul. We saw that the difference between the two places we visited together today is over 10 lira. This is the price difference between June and July 3. We are keeping protocols in this regard.” he said.
Emphasizing that administrative sanctions ranging from 180,000 lira to 1 million 800,000 lira can be imposed for any transaction in which an unfair price increase is detected, Menteşe stated that the checks were carried out simultaneously in 81 provinces under the instructions of the Ministry of Commerce and that the checks would continue with determination to protect the economic interests of citizens.
