Çağrı Bey is ready for the historic mission

Türkiye, which has recently accelerated its international activities as well as its domestic exploration and production activities, has started the countdown to carry out exploration drilling in Somalia.

The work in Somalia was shaped by the seismic research vessel Oruç Reis' 234 days of research in the region.

Oruç Reis, sent to Somalia across the Bosphorus by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 5, 2024, collected data on a total area of ​​4,464 square kilometers in three separate maritime blocks in Somalia. After reviewing and interpreting the data, it was decided to drill at a specific location.

Will arrive in Somalia after 53 days

Following the drilling decision, Çağrı Bey, one of the energy fleet's new deep-sea drilling ships, began its journey towards Somalia on February 15.

Çağrı Bey is expected to reach the port of Mogadishu on Friday at the end of the planned 53-day cruise.

Minister Bayraktar will be in Somalia

A ceremony will be held at the port of Mogadishu for the drillship Çağrı Bey, which will carry out Türkiye's first deep-sea exploratory drilling abroad.

In addition to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Somali President Hasan Şeyh Mahmud, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Dahir Shire Mohamed and Ports and Maritime Transport Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur will also attend the ceremony.

After the ceremony, Mr. Çağrı will move to the place where he will drill.

CURAD-1 Well

The well, 372 kilometers from Mogadishu, where Çağrı Bey will begin drilling, takes its name from Curad, which means the first baby born in the family in Somalia.

The Çağrı Bey drilling ship will drill at a point with a water depth of 3 thousand 495 meters after digging 4 thousand 5 meters from the seabed and a total depth of 7 thousand 500 meters.

The CURAD-1 well is said to be the second deepest offshore well in the world at a depth of 7,500 meters.

Drilling will continue for 288 days

The drilling operations of the drilling ship Çağrı Bey in Somalia are expected to last a total of 288 days. In this mission, Çağrı Bey will be accompanied by the Energy Fleet's support ships Altan, Korkut and Sancar.

During the drilling work, a total of 500 employees will work on site in rotation, including 180 employees in Çağrı Bey, 60 employees on support vessels and 10 employees on shore duty.

In addition, naval elements consisting of TCG Sancaktar, TCG Gökova and TCG Bafra will also provide support to Çağrı Bey so that he can operate safely.
