According to ASELSAN's statement, during the launch of the SSB quantum program, signatures were signed between ASELSAN and SSB regarding the superconducting quantum processor device development project.
The project, led by ASELSAN as prime contractor and lasting four years, aims to develop the superconducting quantum processing unit, one of the most critical components of quantum computers at local and national levels.
The high computing power of quantum computers is expected to bring revolutionary change in many areas such as the defense industry, cybersecurity, cryptology, medicine, chemistry, finance and materials science. Quantum technologies, which are the focus of technology companies, research centers and publicly funded programs worldwide, are considered one of the most important strategic competitive areas of the future.
The heart of quantum computers is developed domestically
The work to be carried out under the project aims to ensure Türkiye's technological independence in the field of quantum hardware and reduce foreign dependence on critical quantum components.
In addition, it is planned to increase competence in areas such as condensed matter physics, microwave engineering, electronics and quantum information theory and to provide infrastructure for research and development studies. The creation of an infrastructure for quantum technologies in the areas of defense, communications and information security, as well as the training of the human resources necessary for this strategic area, are among the main objectives of the project.
Strategic collaboration with the academy and TUBITAK
Within the scope of the project in question, joint studies will be carried out with Sabancı University, Koç University and TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute (UME).
During the project process, where QPU designs have been ongoing for a long time, the necessary infrastructure investments within ASELSAN for mass production of processor units are also nearing completion.
“We are determined to bring our country to the forefront of high technology”
Ahmet Akyol, General Manager of ASELSAN, whose views were included in the statement, explained that since 2021 they have been working on quantum technologies that will shape the world of the future.
Akyol explained that they have taken another strategic step in this area:
“The first signatures have been made for the superconducting quantum processor unit development project, which is being carried out under the main contractor of ASELSAN. We will produce the superconducting processor units that we will develop within the project in Türkiye's first superconductor production house, whose investments we continue with high speed. At the same time, we continue our investments to bring the quantum chip production house to life in ASELSAN. With the project, we will become the quantum processor unit design and produce, which is considered the heart of quantum computing at home and abroad, reduces our dependence on foreign sources in the technologies of the future and becomes a pioneer for our country. We are determined to bring our country to the forefront together with our valuable stakeholders Sabancı University, Koç University and TÜBİTAK UME.
