ASELSAN sees the use of artificial intelligence as essential to increase productivity

ASELSAN Electronics and Software Design Director Dr. Fatih Say answered AA correspondent’s questions at the “32nd Signal Processing and Communication Applications Congress” organized by Tarsus University in Mersin.

Say explained that ASELSAN is the “flagship” of the Turkish defense industry and, with this responsibility, closely follows all developments in the field of artificial intelligence.

Say stressed that artificial intelligence affects all sectors and said:

“The artificial intelligence technology that we have been using for about 10 years to make the systems we develop more intelligent is actively used in our products in this field. Especially recently, this productive intelligence has attracted everyone's attention and large investments have been made in this field, which has accelerated artificial intelligence technologies.”

Speaking about their work in this area, Say said, “As ASELSAN, we are working on scenarios that will make our systems smarter using artificial intelligence, allowing users to use the systems immediately without receiving little or no training when needed, and completely incapacitating humans in some applications,” he said.

Say stated that Turkey has changed the balance in the world with its success in producing UCAVs and UAVs.

Say stated that the use of artificial intelligence in the defense industry is important and made the following assessment:

“To make us more productive and our systems smarter, artificial intelligence is no longer a choice for us, but a necessity. The critical part is that, as with any technology, artificial intelligence should not only be used for peaceful purposes. In fact, in some ways, artificial intelligence has become a threat to us.” “This technology, which is easily accessible to everyone, can also be used by our adversaries. That's why we're working with stakeholders to bring these capabilities to our Army.” “

“We will see many autonomous elements in operational areas”

Expressing that artificial intelligence will bring about changes in the operational areas, Say said, “Autonomous systems are in our lives. Even the vacuum cleaner in our house is now autonomous. So we will see a lot of autonomous elements in the operational areas. We also recently conducted the first studies on this: “Sea Wolf-II/24 Exercise” “There, our unmanned maritime vehicles conducted some seriously autonomous combat scenarios,” he said.

“We are working on autonomous systems of the future”

ASELSAN’s Software Design Director Dr. Fatih Say stated that they focused on artificial intelligence technologies for the Turkish Army and said:

“We are working on autonomous systems of the future where humans are not involved as much as possible and perhaps only make strategic decisions, and many scenarios for those decisions and what consequences the scenario could have are proposed by artificial intelligence. As an institution that tries to serve our army in all areas from the seabed to the depths of space, we are now working with artificial intelligence.” “We will continue to provide this service with reinforced and supported solutions.”
