Trump held a news conference at the White House after the shooting and answered questions from reporters.
Sharing details of the incident that occurred overnight, Trump said: “A man armed with multiple weapons attacked the security checkpoint. He was neutralized by very brave members of the Secret Service. An officer was shot but survived. I just spoke to the officer, he is in very good condition.”
As an example of the incident in question, Trump said: “I didn't want to say this, but that's why we have to have all the qualities of what we're planning in the White House. We need the ballroom. That's why the Secret Service and the military are demanding it.”
“I don’t think it has anything to do with the Iran war”
Trump said he wanted the dinner organized by the White House Correspondents' Association to go ahead despite the attack, saying he had met with representatives from the event and that the canceled evening would be rescheduled within 30 days.
When asked why such events always happen to him, the US President replied: “The people who have the most influence are the people who are most looked after. I hate to say that I feel honored by this.”
Asked whether the armed attack was related to the Iran war, Trump replied: “I don't think so, but you never know,” noting that more information would be available after the incident was investigated.
Trump said: “This incident will not stop me from winning the war in Iran. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Based on what we know, I don't think so.” he said.
On the other hand, US President Trump shared the video recordings of the attack and the photo of the attacker taken when he was arrested on his social media account.
