“Our promotional and tasting activities have increased significantly recently”

Ufuk Atakan Demir, vice president of the Aegean Fisheries and Livestock Products Exporters Association, said the aquaculture industry continues to grow every year and reached a remarkable level last year with exports reaching $2.2 billion.

Demir explained that the sector has a variety of products: “We are a very water-rich country and surrounded by seas on three sides. We farm trout in our rivers, sea bream, sea bass, Turkish salmon and tuna,” he said.

Stating that they have done important work to promote Turkish fish abroad, Demir said:

“Our promotional and tasting activities have increased significantly recently. Our promotional activities, especially with top chefs in America, England and European Union countries, have produced incredible results. The demand from America and Europe is huge. It is in demand all over the world because we sell it with a Mediterranean theme and it is delicious. “The increase of 31 percent in the first two months compared to last year gives us the good news of a record this year. We hope in the near future the to exceed the $2.5 billion mark.”
