According to the compilation of data by the State Airport Authority of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (DHMİ), the aviation sector, which serves 58 airports in Türkiye, continues to grow.
While Türkiye has carried out important projects in the field of aviation investments in the past 5 years, Çukurova, Rize-Artvin and Yeni Tokat airports were put into operation during this period.
Istanbul Airport, where the simultaneous operation of three independent runways was put into operation, became the first airport in Europe to allow three aircraft to land or take off on independent runways at the same time.
Capacity has also been increased through new facilities at airports such as Antalya and Esenboğa.
Civil aircraft traffic in Türkiye has increased significantly in 2021-2025 due to new investments in this sector.
Air traffic exceeded 1.9 million last year
While the traffic of civil airliners landing and taking off at airports was 1 million 204 thousand 618 in 2021, this number increased to 1 million 488 thousand 626 in 2022 with the disappearance of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
While air traffic reached 1 million 685 thousand 877 in 2023, in 2024 it reached 1 million 772 thousand 610.
The density of airports increased by 8.8 percent last year compared to 2024, reaching 1 million 928 thousand 411.
Thus, the number of aircraft landing and taking off from Türkiye airports reached 8 million 80 thousand 142 in 5 years.
4 million 290 thousand 959 of the total traffic was on domestic routes and 3 million 789 thousand 183 on international routes.
While Istanbul Airport alone handles more than a quarter of civil airline traffic, the number of aircraft landing and taking off from this airport during the period in question amounted to 2 million,277,000,840.
