Access to the Threads application in Turkey is blocked

Last month, the competition authority issued an interim injunction against Meta as part of the investigation launched into suspected abuse of its dominant position by connecting Threads and Instagram applications. In this context, access to threads from Turkey is currently not possible.

Last month, the competition authority opened an investigation into Meta Platforms, Inc. on suspicion of abusing its market dominance by linking Threads and Instagram applications. He issued an injunction against (Meta).

The panel's statement on the decision said that Meta's combination of data from users who created Threads profiles based on Instagram accounts, without giving users an opportunity to verify, would cause irreparable losses until the investigation was completed , and that the company in It was noted that the question has a comprehensive and detailed database due to its long-standing market presence.

The statement noted that Meta services are attractive to advertisers due to the size and diversity of the company's user base and that this situation allows Meta to allocate more resources to service development and makes it more difficult for competitors to gain access to advertisers and therefore to to obtain financial resources. It was emphasized that their activities constituted a barrier to market entry.

The statement explained that Meta operates as an ecosystem with the basic services it offers and related services and that this allows Meta to transfer the power and knowledge it gains from each service to another service and its market power to increase.

On the other hand, it was previously found that by combining the data collected by Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp services, Meta complicates the activities of its competitors operating in the social network services and online display advertising markets and represents a barrier to entry imposed some obligations.
