A memorandum of understanding was signed between Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and TotalEnergies.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that with the agreement they will comprehensively evaluate potential cooperation opportunities in hydrocarbon exploration activities in Turkey and internationally.
Minister Bayraktar emphasized that Türkiye will strengthen its path towards full independence in the energy sector and added the following statements in his contribution:
“In line with our goal of becoming a key energy country, a strategic memorandum of understanding was signed in Istanbul between our national company TPAO and TotalEnergies. With this agreement, we will comprehensively evaluate potential cooperation opportunities in hydrocarbon exploration activities in Turkey and internationally. As we achieve our goal of making TPAO a global energy player, we will continue to add strength to our country's march towards total energy independence by combining our superior technical capabilities with international experience.”
On the other hand, the statement on TotalEnergies' website said that the memorandum in question established a framework for technical cooperation, including the joint assessment of exploration opportunities in the Black Sea region of Türkiye and internationally.
Nicola Mavilla, Senior Vice President of Exploration at TotalEnergies, whose views were included in the statement, said: “We are pleased to initiate this collaboration with TPAO to evaluate exploration opportunities in the Black Sea region of Türkiye and internationally on a mutually beneficial basis, benefiting from the technical expertise of both companies.” he said.
