8 special International Women's Day messages from the 8th National Antarctic Science Expedition

The 8th National Antarctic Scientific Expedition, which was carried out under the auspices of the Presidency, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and under the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute, was successfully completed after 36 days.

The studies conducted by scientists on the continent as part of the 8th National Antarctic Scientific Expedition, consisting of a 24-member team including renowned researchers from Turkey, will shed light on the unknowns of the planet.

In this context, on this year's International Women's Day on March 8, eight female researchers who took part in the expedition delivered their messages from the continent where the studies were carried out.

The messages written on the board by the researchers were photographed in Antarctica, the continent dedicated to science, by the Anadolu Agency photojournalist who took part in the expedition.


“The number of female researchers on expeditions increases every year”

Coordinator of the 8th National Antarctic Science Expedition, Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy stated that the number of female researchers on expeditions is increasing every year.

Emphasizing that this expedition had the highest number of participants with 8 female researchers, Özsoy said that he was satisfied with the increasing number of female researchers in the expeditions and that this number should increase further in future studies.

Özsoy emphasized that it is a matter of pride that women can be represented in the most difficult conditions in the world, as in all parts of society.

Özsoy explained that it is a term that is often used in seafaring, especially when sailing ships. Aimed at ensuring everything goes smoothly, “Sure” said: “A sea voyage is ultimately about embracing the unknown and unpredictable. Expedition member Prof. Dr. Nüket Sivri also said that keeping science alive is just as important as living with science.
