33 million passengers are transported on the Istanbul Northern Railway every year

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Uraloğlu made a written statement about the railway project that will pass through the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.

Reminding that the tender notice on this issue was published in the Official Gazette, Uraloğlu pointed out that the tender for the design and construction of the project's infrastructure and construction works will be held on October 14.

Uraloğlu stated that within the scope of the tender, a 122.3-kilometer-long double main line and 4.7-kilometer-long single-line connections to connect with this main line, 5 double-tube TBM tunnels with a length of 36.2 kilometers, 22 double-track NATM tunnels with a length of 23.3 kilometers, 17 cut-and-cover tunnels with a length of 3.7 kilometers, two Viaducts with a length of 22.1 kilometers as well as 40 bridges and train stations and similar work are being carried out.

Uraloğlu reminded that a financing agreement was reached with international financial institutions for the project in question and made the following assessment:

“We have reached a preliminary agreement with 6 international financial institutions. In this context, the institutions will provide a total of 6.75 billion dollars to finance our project. Thus, the Northern Ring Railway Project, which includes the Gebze-Sabiha Gökçen Airport-Yavuz-Sultan Selim Bridge-Istanbul Airport-Çatalca route, will be Turkey's largest externally financed railway project.”

“A new era will begin in logistics”

Uraloğlu stated that the route under the project will start from the Çayırova section of the Marmaray Line and will be connected to Çatalca via Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Istanbul Airport.

Stating that the project will be integrated into the Halkalı-Çerkezköy high-speed train line under construction in Çatalca, Uraloğlu said:

“As the line enables 24-hour rail traffic, Marmaray transit will become easier and the freight capacity we carry in the Middle Corridor will increase. Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport will be directly connected by rail for the first time. The railway line passing through the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge will significantly increase Türkiye's capacity in rail transportation between Asia and Europe, and a new era in logistics begins. With its completion The route carries 33 million passengers and 30 million tons of freight are transported annually.
