The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that provincial trade directorates continue to check inflated prices and price tags in 81 provinces to ensure that the increase in the minimum wage is not transmitted to citizens and consumers are not faced with measures that would allow violation of their interests.
The statement said 4,000,378 markets and 397,000,198 products were inspected and shared the following information:
“Violations were found in 5 thousand 125 of the inspected products. In this context, administrative penalties totaling 10 million 19 thousand 801 lira were imposed on the companies. As of December 25, the provinces with the most market inspections during the three-day inspections were Istanbul with 605, Antalya with 325 and Antalya with 322. This has become Ankara.”
Most of the controls regarding the number of products take place in Ankara
The statement stated that the most inspections in terms of the number of products were carried out in Ankara with 100,600, and it was learned that the capital was followed by Antalya with 75,125 and Istanbul with 54,881.
The statement noted that the provinces with the most violations were Istanbul with 2,123, Ankara with 1,377 and Elazığ with 506. The following expressions were used:
“As a result of the inspections and taking into account the punitive measures imposed on the products found to be violators, Istanbul was the city where the most punitive measures were imposed, with 4 million 670,000 600 liras. This city was followed by Ankara with 3 million 29 thousand 400 lira and Bursa with 211 thousand 200 lira Inspections Within this framework, cases were initiated against 2 thousand 668 companies on suspicion of unfair price increases. The statement said that as a result of the investigations, companies where sufficient concrete data was found to have made exorbitant price increases would be referred to the Unfair Price Assessment Board. The board also stated that fines would be imposed on companies from 100,000 to 1 million lira for 2024 and from 143,000 930 lira to 1 million 439,000 300 lira for 2025. It was reported that a penalty could be imposed.
The statement stated that 603 of the markets against which administrative proceedings were initiated on suspicion of unfair price increases were located in Istanbul, 322 in Ankara and 99 in Izmir. The following statements were used:
“As the Ministry of Commerce, we will continue our work as a central and provincial organization without interruption to protect the rights and interests of our citizens and prevent companies from making unfair profits through unfair price increases and unfair actions.”
