“We will ensure that Turkey becomes one of the leading countries in the field of artificial intelligence”

In his written statement, Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır evaluated the presidential decrees published in today's edition of the Official Gazette.

Emphasizing that important steps have been taken for the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure and ecosystem with the provisions of the decree, Kacır said: “The General Directorate of National Technology in our Ministry of Industry and Technology will continue its work as 'General Directorate of National Technology and Artificial Intelligence' from today. In this context, it will develop the data center and cloud computing infrastructure in our country, prepare and implement policy recommendations and strategies in this area, establish criteria and standards for data centers and make arrangements for certification and make authorization.” he said.

Kacır pointed out that the General Directorate ensures the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies in accordance with reliable and ethical principles, prepares and implements policy recommendations and strategies in the field of artificial intelligence, increases the capacity of data, infrastructure and human resources for the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies, supports initiatives and R&D activities, makes the necessary legislative arrangements, develops international cooperation, ensures governance and coordination at the national level, and studies on artificial intelligence in the public sector in these areas will contribute.

Applications of artificial intelligence in the public sector

Kacır gave the following information about the tasks of the General Directorate of Public Artificial Intelligence established within the Cybersecurity Presidency:


“The Directorate will conduct legislative studies on applications of artificial intelligence in the public sector, contribute to the harmonization of national policies, strategies and action plans in the field of artificial intelligence and national legislation with international regulations, and engage in ecosystem development activities. It will establish the principles, procedures and standards for data management, which includes the management of processes from creation to destruction of data in the context of the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the digital state and public sphere. It will pioneer applications of artificial intelligence in the public sector and together with the relevant Institutions define the requirements for this and implement a common data room infrastructure and use it in applications. “We define the quality criteria and standards of the data and adhere to them.” With the work we will carry out in close coordination with all our stakeholders in the public, academic and private sectors, we will ensure that Turkey becomes one of the leading countries in the field of artificial intelligence.”
