ULAK Communications, committed to the development of national solutions in the field of communication technologies, aims to achieve results that can be included in the documents of organizations defining standards in the field of 6G technologies and to develop standards-based patents (SEP).
Since patents only provide protection in the country in which they are acquired, ULAK Communications files separate patent applications for each country. After filing with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, international protection is sought by applying for the PCT within 12 months. In this process, patent protection is ensured by moving to national or regional tiers in regions such as North America and Europe.
Ruşen Kömürcü, General Manager of ULAK Communications, said in his statement that as ULAK Communications, they have made important inventions in various focus areas such as non-terrestrial networks, artificial intelligence/machine learning, channel control mechanisms, integrated detection and communication, beamforming technologies, etc. and cell-free communications.
“We want to play a leading role in technological innovations”
Kömürcü stated that they have applied for more than 90 national and international patents in the last two years and that they have managed to apply for a total of 17 patents at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT). He stated that they conduct scientific research by collaborating with leading universities and academicians in the country.
Kömürcü said:
“ULAK Communications aims to protect both its own rights and respect the patent rights of its competitors by creating a competitive patent portfolio. We plan to play an effective role in 3GPP standardization studies simultaneously with the world, with the research and development activities we conduct aimed at 6G standards that are expected to be available in 2030.” “As ULAK Communication, we aim to maintain a leading position in the industry and apply for more patents internationally by actively using the patent strategy.” Our goal is to play a leading role in future technological innovations.”
Crucial for industries such as communications
Today, a patent is no longer just a document that merely guarantees the legal protection of a technical invention within the legal framework and protects the rights of the inventor, but has become the currency of technology.
In this way, it provides legal protection for inventions developed by companies or individuals. Inventions that can be protected by patents can be a new product developed to solve a technical problem or involve new production methods.
Patents are crucial, especially for companies operating in industries such as communications, consumer electronics and vehicle production where technology and innovative development are important, and they give their owners the right to prevent competitors from making, using or selling the invention without authorization for a certain period of time. Therefore, patent owners can assert rights against competitors producing in similar industries and prevent imitation of the inventions.
