Türksat 6A, which was sent to the United States on an Antonov AN-124 cargo plane, arrived at the Cape Canaveral Cosmodrome yesterday at around 12:00 noon US local time (7:00 p.m. Turkish lira) after a journey of more than 19 hours.
After the cargo plane landed, the satellite was brought to SpaceX's hangar after about four hours of operations.
Tüksat 6A was sent to the United States on June 4 in a ceremony at Ankara's Mürted Airport attended by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır.
It will be launched into space in July
Turksat 6A, where launch operations will begin at SpaceX facilities, is scheduled to be launched into orbit during the week of July 8-15, depending on weather conditions.
Local quota over 80 percent
The Türksat 6A project involved the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and TÜRKSAT AŞ as the client institution, TÜBİTAK UZAY as the project management institution and ASELSAN, TUSAŞ and C2TECH companies as the project implementing institution. Türksat 6A was manufactured by Turkish engineers at USET at TAI in Ankara with a localization rate of over 80 percent.
Türkiye will reach more than 65 percent of the world population
Türksat 6A, a 7.5 kilowatt local and national communications satellite to be positioned in a geocentric orbit at a distance of 35,786 kilometers, will also reach regions such as Southeast Asia where existing satellites are not in service. Türksat is currently able to reach a population of 3.5 billion people in the world by continuing its activities with a total of 5 communications satellites, namely Türksat 3A, 4A, 4B, 5A and 5B, in the 31 degree, 42 degree and 50 degree East orbits.
With the commissioning of Türksat 6A, India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia will also be included in Turkey's coverage area. This will increase the population reached by Turksat 6A and Turkish satellites from 3.5 billion to over 5 billion. With its own communications satellites, Türkiye will be able to reach more than 65 percent of the world's population.
The crescent-star logo has been chosen for Türksat 6A
With the vision of the Turkish Century and the logo inspired by the Turkish flag, Türksat 6A will be Turkey's first domestic and national communications satellite, representing Turkey and the Turkish flag in space.
The aim is to become a satellite exporter
One of the goals is for Turkey, which is one of the few countries capable of producing communications satellites, to become a satellite exporter following its experience with Turksat 6A.
