Türksat 5A brought Türkiye's satellite communications to the top league

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu evaluated the fifth year of operation of Türkiye's first fifth-generation satellite, Türksat 5A.

Stating that the production contract for Türksat 5A was signed between Türksat AŞ and Airbus Defense and Space in 2017, Uraloğlu said, “After the signing, Türksat 5A, whose production was completed at Airbus' factories in France (Toulouse), was sent into space on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from the Cape Canaveral base in the United States on January 8, 2021. Our satellite landed in the in May orbit.” 4.” he said.

Uraloğlu said that with the launch of Türksat 5A, Türkiye's competitiveness in the field of space and communications has increased and its goal of becoming a regional center for satellite operations has been strengthened.

Stating that Türksat 5A has an electrical power of 12 kilowatts and has secured the frequency and orbit rights in Türkiye's 31 degree east orbit for almost 35 years, Uraloğlu said, “The satellite, which was put into service on June 28, 2021, began providing television broadcasting and data communication services in a wide geographical area covering Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, North and South Africa as well as marine basins (Mediterranean, Aegean, Black Sea), he said.

Türksat 5A made a significant contribution to broadcasting and communication services

Pointing out that with this step, Türkiye is one of the first countries in the world to use the new Ku-band frequency, Uraloğlu explained that the Türksat 5A satellite, which was launched to increase Türkiye's satellite communication capacity, makes a significant contribution to broadcasting and communication services with its large coverage area and high data transmission capacity.

Pointing out that Türksat 5A takes TÜRKSAT's service quality and Türkiye's satellite communications to the next level, especially in military communication services in the Central Asia region and television broadcasting in the Middle East and North Africa regions, Uraloğlu said:

“The high capacity provided by Türksat 5A increased the broadcast quality by meeting the bandwidth needs for high-definition broadcast technologies such as 8K. Türksat 5A extended its lifespan to over 35 years thanks to the electric propulsion system used. This technology allows the satellite to operate until 2056, while its capacity was significantly increased by transferring the mass allocated for fuel to the equipment. Our satellite, which is widely used in international maritime activities and mobile systems, also provides Services for global operators such as Arabsat, the satellite operator of the Arab world: “It has brought TÜRKSAT significant export revenue.”
