Türkiye ranks first in the world in the production of many product groups and plays an active role in global markets.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Türkiye produces various product groups, from vegetables to fruits, from grains to strategic products, with an agricultural area of 38 million 588 thousand hectares.
22 products in the top 3
Türkiye, which stands out for its global position in agricultural production, has 22 products in the top three. Türkiye is a world leader in the annual production of hazelnuts, figs, apricots, poppies, cherries, quinces and carob.
Apricot is at its peak
According to the latest data, Türkiye is at the top in apricot production with 750,000 tons, while Uzbekistan is in second place with 500,545 tons. Uzbekistan is followed by Iran with 318,475 tons, Italy with 207,190 tons and Algeria with 200,566 tons. Other countries that produce the most apricots are Afghanistan, Pakistan, France, Armenia and Spain.
Türkiye draws attention with its position as the country that produces the most cherries with 736,791 tons. Considering that 2 million 972 thousand 382 tons of cherries are produced worldwide, one finds that Türkiye covers about 25 percent of the world production.
Chile is second with 465,348 tons, followed by the United States with 321,420 tons, Uzbekistan with 218,867 tons and Iran with 144,877 tons.
Another product that ranks first in production is Fig. While Turkey produces 356,000 tons of figs annually, Egypt produces 193.58 tons, Morocco 119,167 tons, Algeria 116,183 tons and Iran 73,483 tons.
Türkiye was ahead of Italy with 650,000 tons of hazelnut production
More than half of the world's hazelnut production is produced in Türkiye. In this context, a total of 1 million 125,000 221 tons of shelled hazelnuts are produced worldwide, while 650,000 tons are produced in Turkey.
After Türkiye, Italy ranks second in hazelnut production with 102,740 tons, followed by the USA with 85,460 tons, Azerbaijan with 75,409 tons and Chile with 65,647 tons.
Türkiye is also attracting attention in quince cultivation. While 687,36 tonnes of quinces are produced worldwide, Turkey is the first producer with 192,237 tonnes, China is the second producer with 111,576 tonnes, Uzbekistan is the third producer with 95,654 tonnes, Iran is the fourth producer with 90,477 tonnes and Morocco is the fifth producer with 43,523 tonnes.
Türkiye also has a say in poppy cultivation
Türkiye, which ranks first in carob production, produces 24,561 tons of this product. While 55,929 tons were produced worldwide in the same period, Türkiye is followed by Morocco with 22.96 tons, Lebanon with 4,188 tons, Algeria with 3,424 tons and Tunisia with 813 tons.
Another product that is a leader in production is poppy seeds. While 10,578 tons of poppy seeds are produced worldwide, 7,922 tons of poppy seeds are produced in Turkey. When it comes to poppy production, Türkiye is followed by Palestine with 1,539 tons, Serbia with 1,079 tons and North Macedonia with 38 tons.
Turkey ranks second in the production of cucumbers and sour cherries and third in the production of pistachios, tangerines, peaches, spinach, chickpeas, apples, cranberries, watermelons, melons, leeks, peppers, tomatoes and olives.
