Trump signs executive order on artificial intelligence initiative

The White House statement accompanying the executive order said Genesis Mission entrusted the US Secretary of Energy with the task of bringing together “the nation's brightest minds, most powerful computers and vast scientific data resources” into a common research ecosystem, leveraging the capabilities of national laboratories.

The statement noted that the order directed the Department of Energy to create a closed artificial intelligence experimental platform and emphasized that collaboration with academia and the private sector will be carried out to support the Genesis mission.

The statement said the initiative's priority areas of focus include topics such as biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear fission and fusion energy, space exploration, quantum information science, and semiconductors and microelectronics.

The statement said that the Trump administration wants to use the Genesis mission to increase the efficiency and impact of federal research and development activities over the next decade and that the use of artificial intelligence as a scientific tool will revolutionize research processes.

The statement said Genesis Mission will create a platform for the US to advance and maintain its position in the artificial intelligence race.

The statement emphasized that Trump continues to prioritize “US global dominance in artificial intelligence” for the well-being of humanity, economic competitiveness and national security, and noted the work done since January.
