Trump published a post on the subject on the US social media platform Truth Social.
In his post, he said: “All air traffic controllers must return to work immediately. Those who do not will face drastic pay cuts.” Trump indicated in his statements that he would recommend a $10,000 bonus per person to “great patriots” air traffic controllers who did not take vacation during the government shutdown.
Trump emphasized that he was dissatisfied with employees who “did nothing but complain and take vacations,” even though they knew their salaries would be paid in full in a short period of time.
Arguing that these employees had taken no steps to help the US, Trump continued:
“At least in my eyes, this will go down as a negative mark on your record. If you wish to leave office soon, please do not hesitate, you can do so without pay or compensation. Your position will be quickly filled by true patriots who will do a better job with brand new, state-of-the-art equipment, the best in the world, that we are currently ordering.”
Trump claimed that the previous US administration also wasted billions of dollars fixing old, outdated systems.
The decline in the number of air traffic control officers due to the federal government shutdown in the United States since October 1 affected flight operations.
To ensure flight safety, capacity has been reduced at some airports and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.
