The TEKNOFEST winning project focuses on honoring companies in the defense industry

Akif Akbaş from the image processing team of the Rehber Koustech Team of Kocaeli University, which developed the project, conducted assessments at the “Kocaeli Urban Economies Summit” organized under the main theme “Industry and Technology in the Turkish Century”.

Stating that they are the first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) team of the university, Akbaş said that as a team they have been working on UAVs and their subsystems in the workshops of Guide Technology Center since 2017 and have produced 6 vehicles and many subsystems so far .

“We want to make our products more compact”

Akbaş also informed about the features of the UCAV they created within the project and said:

“It can perform autonomous takeoffs, landings, autonomous landings and autonomous kamikaze missions. At the same time, we develop the aircraft's subsystems and software. From the camera's image processing to its controls and designs, we do this. “By developing cheap, domestic and national munitions and technologies for our defense industry, we are not only developing the military aircraft.” We want to be not only in the field, but also improve in the civil sector. These can be observation, agriculture. We aim to make all of our products more compact this year. Stating that they initially participated in the AUVSI SUAS competition in the United States and became a finalist, Akbaş said that they focused on the competitions in Turkey due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Stating that they have participated in 10 competitions in Turkey, Akbaş pointed out that they have participated in the “Fighting UAV” competitions within the framework of TEKNOFEST since 2021 and that they have participated in these competitions in 2022-2023 received the “Most Original Software” award.

Stating that they took fourth place in the same competition in 2023 and won the first prize in the said competition at TEKNOFEST in 2024, Akbaş said, “We won first place this year as the first team to complete both kamikaze and autonomous airlock missions TEKNOFEST in Adana, we worked with many companies “We held meetings. We want to present our project as a product of our defense industry,” he said.
