The target for software exports in 2028 is $7 billion

Turkish Innovation Week 2024, organized for the 11th time this year with the support of the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), was held at Haliç Congress Center under the theme “Out of the Box: People, Culture, Model” .

Minister Bolat stated in his speech here that Turkey is a role model for the world with its research and development activities, technology initiatives and innovative solutions, thanks to such organizations, which are an indicator of Turkey's entrepreneurial spirit and ability to innovate it contributes to the development of the country's technological and intellectual capacity in a manner appropriate to the Turkish century.

Stressing that the world is in a period of innovation unprecedented in history, Bolat said: “Companies and industries are undergoing unprecedented transformation in technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology, etc. This process is innovation-oriented. “This is a time when those who invest more in research and development will come first and win. With this awareness, we continue our work by mobilizing all our resources to achieve our goal.” “Making the country's innovation ecosystem more attractive,” he said.

Bolat stated that they remain committed to bringing the country to a leading position in innovation as part of the “Turkey Century” vision, as in all other areas, saying: “Our goal is to make our country the home of many “To make it a point of attraction,” he said.

Pointing out that they have carried out studies that will ensure Turkey's technological transformation and increase its export capacity, Bolat said: “We have increased our exports of goods and services by 7.5 times in the last 22 years. As of September, our annual goods exports for the last 12 months are $261.6 billion and our services exports are $111 billion.” “We have increased it to $1 billion,” he said.

Recalling that according to January-August data, the current account deficit fell to $9.7 billion, Bolat continued:

“In August, our current account had a surplus of $4.3 billion. We have had a current account surplus for the last three months in a row. Over the last 12 months, the ratio of the current account deficit to national income fell by $44.4 billion.

“We have reached the $100 billion mark in exports of medium and high technology products.”

Stating that the current account deficit is no longer a problem in the country, Minister Bolat explained that due to the economic program, foreign trade policy and measures taken, there is no longer a foreign exchange problem.

Bolat explained that foreign exchange supply has increased significantly and has reached a position that contributes to macroeconomic and macroeconomic stability in terms of foreign trade and ongoing transactions.

Bolat explained that they are aware of the need to continue to be a country that creates added value and have adopted a culture of innovation to make this export success sustainable: “Innovation and technological change are key tools for our production and exports.” In this In this context, we have achieved a high level of exports since 2012.” “I would like to proudly say that we have doubled exports of high-tech products and are approaching the $100 billion mark in the medium and high-tech sector.” Exports of technical products . he said.

Recalling that the share of exports of medium, high and high technology products in total exports was 40 percent last year, Bolat said: “We will increase this value to 50 percent by 2028,” he said.

“Our 2028 target for software exports is $7 billion”

Stating that Turkey is now playing in the Champions League in the IT sector and that its trained workforce is increasing, Trade Minister Bolat said that young people are turning to computer science and technology.

Recalling that software exports were $3.5 billion last year, Bolat said: “Our target for 2028 is $7 billion. Today, Turkey is building its own warship, from unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft parts to the machinery needed for additive manufacturing. “It is a country that can produce many high-quality and technological products,” has given his assessment.

Stating that the defense industry has grown with increasing momentum in recent years, Bolat has reached an annual production capacity of $12 billion: “The defense industry has reached an export value of $5.5 billion. This year we will exceed $6.5 billion.” Our goal for 2028 is to reach $11 billion in defense industry exports.

“Türkiye has taken its place among the 50 most innovative countries”

Minister Bolat explained that according to the International Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024 data, Turkey ranks 37th among 133 countries and is among the 50 most innovative countries.

Pointing out the importance of advancing Turkey's achievements, Bolat said that the main priorities in the coming period are to minimize the current weaknesses of the economy, use production factors more effectively, further improve the investment environment and the necessary technological and innovative measures to ensure a transformation that will increase the unit price in exports, he explained.

Bolat explained that the Ministry of Commerce supports companies in their move to the international stage with export-oriented state aid designed on the basis of innovation, research and development, design and branding to reflect the country's entrepreneurial spirit and innovative capacity, saying:
