The number of “UAVs”, the technological birds of the sky, is increasing

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made statements regarding unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and the number of people with UAV pilot licenses in Turkey.

Drawing attention to the increase in the number of UAVs and the number of people with UAV pilot licenses, thanks to the training and studies carried out by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) in the field of civil aviation in recent years, Minister Uraloğlu said: “Until the end September 2024, the number of UAVs will increase by 12 percent compared to the same period in 2023. It reached 68,647, an increase of 0.5.” “The number of UAV pilots increased by 6.6 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 million 536 thousand 993,” he said.

Between 5,000 and 8,000 new UAVs are registered every year

Recalling that the General Directorate of Civil Aviation has created a special registration system for UAVs within the framework of the “UAV System Instruction”, Minister Uraloğlu said that this provides great convenience in the approval, flights and registration of these vehicles.

Emphasizing that about 5,000 to 8,000 new UAVs are registered in the UAV registration system every year, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the use of UAVs has increased in various sectors such as agricultural pesticides, photography, cinema, mapping, traffic, security, shipping and health increased significantly.

All UAV operations are managed by DGCA using the UAV Tracking and Traffic Management System.

Uraloğlu also stated that with the UAV Tracking and Traffic Management System (İHATTYS) project, they will ensure the integration of UAVs into the existing airspace with an accessible, affordable, efficient, safe, environmentally friendly and digital approach, saying, “Hence, safety “and security problems caused by UAVs will be eliminated.” “İHATTYS project aims to ensure that all UAV operations in our country can be safely managed by the DGCA without the need to install hardware on the UAVs.” said he.
