The new generation of digital broadcasting DAB+ is 1 year old

Minister Uraloğlu made a written statement about the new generation digital radio station DAB+, which was put into operation on “World Radio Day on February 13, 2025”.

Stating that DAB+ is a technology that provides a clear, interference-free sound experience and increases frequency efficiency through the ability to accommodate more than one radio channel on the same frequency, Uraloğlu pointed out that with the digitalization of the world, communication and media channels are also changing rapidly. Uraloğlu pointed out that radio broadcasts were also affected by this change, explaining that digital broadcasting was discovered to achieve better sound quality and more channel capacity, and that these first initiatives developed over time and became DAB+.

Recalling that Türkiye has achieved a world first in broadcasting thanks to the Çamlıca Tower, which was put into operation in 2018, with the ability to broadcast 100 FM radios simultaneously from one communication tower for the first time in the world, Minister Uraloğlu said, “With DAB+ technology, we have implemented an innovation in our Çamlıca Tower that gives a new breath to our broadcasting and will not only shape the present, but also the future.” “With DAB+ we have brought 448 new radio frequencies to Istanbul,” he said.

DAB+, which saves 90 percent energy, also reduces CO2 emissions

Uraloğlu emphasized that DAB+ is a technology that increases frequency efficiency and emphasized that this technology also enriches the listening experience by providing additional content such as text, images and live traffic information.

Uraloğlu pointed out that this way users can access not only music and speech, but also a useful flow of information, saying:

“One of the key advantages of DAB+ is that it offers energy efficiency and sustainability compared to analog systems. It can transmit 16 programs on a single frequency and a single station, and the total energy consumption is only 12.2 kilowatts. Analogue FM stations, on the other hand, use a separate frequency and station for each program. The total energy consumption for 16 programs is 128 kilowatts. Thus, DAB+ enables 90 percent energy savings and offers an environmentally friendly environment Broadcast option.” through a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.”
