The goal of the students affected by the earthquake is first place at TEKNOFEST

The PayaSTEM Artificial Intelligence Center, which was opened in 2016 by the Payas District Directorate of National Education based in Kahramanmaraş and was affected by the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, also suspended its activities for a while.

Students at the center, which teaches students from different schools, continued to develop projects in the container cities where they lived.

The PayaSTEM PAIROC Rocketry Rocket Team, which was founded at the center in 2022 and includes 15 students, has not stopped its work during this time.

The team, which is working on projects on 34 different topics such as helicopter design, flying car and UCAV and received the “Best Team Spirit” award at TEKNOFEST in 2022, is aiming for first place in the “Low Altitude” category at TEKNOFEST to be held in Adana in October with the rocket they designed.

“We started working again after the earthquake”

Cem Kağar, coordinator of the PayaSTEM Artificial Intelligence Center, said they had suspended their activities for three months during the earthquake.

Kağar explained that despite the poor process, the students continue to develop projects and work in the container cities where they stay:


“Before the earthquake, we were preparing for the TEKNOFEST rocket competition. After the earthquake, we started working again and last year we made it to the finals of the rocket competition and were among the teams that won the right to shoot. The couple who values ​​local and national values, people and humanitarian values, raising a youth in line with the TEKNOFEST spirit: “We want to raise angels with wings.”

Kağar explained that they want to get a place at the TEKNOFEST in Adana with the rocket project they developed with their students.

15-year-old Berrin Nas Atalay, one of the students on the team, also expressed her belief that they will be successful with their projects at TEKNOFEST.

Fifteen-year-old Baki Altan also said that he hopes to escape the devastating effects of the earthquake by preparing for the competitions and to secure a place in the competition with his rocket project.

Gökçe Çankır, 17, said her psychology has improved through her work at the center.

Çankır stated that he wants to become an aerospace engineer and explained that his projects would be the first priority at TEKNOFEST.

Fifteen-year-old Mustafa Canda explained that he has been studying at the center for five years and that it is an honor for them to raise the Turkish flag at home and abroad with the projects they have prepared.
