The 5G era in mobile communications begins on April 1st

Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement on Türkiye's transition to 5G technology.

Stating that 5G is a development infrastructure that increases production output, service quality and technological competitiveness at the same time, Uraloğlu said, “We aim to provide 5G services to every point of our country within two years, the first signal of which will be received on April 1.” gave his assessment.

Uraloğlu reminded that they made 3 billion 534 million dollars in revenue through the 5G permit tender on October 16, 2025, and stated that with the spread of 5G technology in Turkey, they would increase the speed, capacity and quality of service in mobile communications.

Pointing out that 5G technology will take mobile communications to a new level, Uraloğlu stated that this transformation is not only a communication technology but also a development infrastructure.

Uraloğlu made the following assessments about this technology:

“With the transition to 5G, our citizens will have faster, more reliable and uninterrupted communication options. 5G technology will accelerate change in many areas, from industrial robots to autonomous driving technologies, from critical infrastructure management to smart city applications. In industry, smart factories will maximize efficiency by optimizing production processes. In agriculture, more sustainable and highly efficient production will be achieved through smart agricultural applications. In the media sector, journalists will be able to have uninterrupted live broadcasts in 8K image quality transmitted, and ours.” Reporters will be able to transmit high-quality images and data from the crime scene in seconds.”

“We have introduced an obligation to use national communication products”

Stating that one of the biggest priorities in this major transformation is the vision of a Turkey in which technology is not only consumed but also produced with domestic and national resources, Uraloğlu pointed out that they are supporting domestic companies from the Transport, Maritime and Communications Research Center (UDHAM) Research and Development Fund within the framework of the 5G project tender issued by the ministry in 2023.

Stating that they have developed 5G core networks, base stations, special management, service and operation software products that are crucial to 5G infrastructures, Uraloğlu said:

“In addition, through the successful commissioning of the domestic 5G core network and ULAK base stations in the studies carried out by TÜRKSAT within the framework of the UDHAM-supported Highway Intelligent Transportation System Project, we have once again demonstrated the capabilities of our national technology. In the 5G permit tender, we obliged our operators to provide up to 60 percent of domestic certified products and up to 30 percent of national ones, depending on market conditions “It is mandatory for its investments in the components for use in private networks to be provided from national communication products.”
