Science and Technology Week was celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout Türkiye

The ministry's written statement said that the Science and Technology Week from March 8 to 14, which was celebrated with the aim of raising scientific awareness and bringing technological developments to all levels of society, was celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout Turkey in line with the “National Technology Move” vision.

The statement noted that the scientists of the future were inspired by the calendar of events covering all ages from preschool to postgraduate education, and noted that with the 2026 program, which was prepared under the coordination of the Science and Society of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Presidency and relevant centers and institutes, various content was offered, from interactive workshops to scientific interviews, from digital competitions to for laboratory tours.

The statement pointed out that 41 TÜBİTAK science centers across Turkey held special workshop series compiled under 72 different main headings on advanced technologies and fundamental sciences, and that the number of participants who had the opportunity to practice in areas such as robotic coding, artificial intelligence, 3D design, biology and recycling exceeded 100,000 within a week.

Scientific awareness was raised through discussions

The statement stressed that remarkable numbers were achieved in the interview programs organized to disseminate information throughout the week, saying: “As part of the activities carried out between March 8 and 14, 3,000 participants were reached through 22 different interviews at the Science Center. While more than a thousand participants showed interest in 17 interviews organized within the universities, the special interview program at the Presidential National Library brought together science enthusiasts with a participation of 500 people.” between March 9 and 13 “With TÜBİTAK Science Talks held in 48 different schools between 2018 and 2018, scientific awareness was brought directly into the educational environment.”

The statement emphasized that the interactive activities on digital platforms and physical areas took place in a festival atmosphere with intense participation of young people and reported that 350 people took part in the award-winning live quiz competitions that took place throughout the week and these competitions received thousands of views and reached a large audience. It was noted that the award-winning quiz competitions for scientific youth, held over seven days, particularly as part of the “Ramadan in the Complex” events, were one of the most popular digital activities of the week, with a participation rate of 4,000 people.

The statement emphasized that a great synergy was created by directly addressing a total of 5,000 participants in technology-oriented field studies conducted on university campuses during the Science and Technology Week, and noted that thanks to the “Open Lab” applications, project exhibitions and technical trips organized at universities across Türkiye, young people had the opportunity to examine advanced technology devices in many fields, from artificial intelligence to wearable technologies, from 3D design to autonomous vehicles. The statement said the activities, complemented by mentoring support and experience-sharing sessions from experienced academics, enable young minds to translate theoretical knowledge into practice in the field. It was also noted that scientific competitions and special events on scientist biographies were held in the DENEYAP technology workshops, which train future technology stars in 81 provinces.

Scientific discoveries and experiences in institutes

The statement pointed out that TÜBİTAK's strategic research centers hosted more than a thousand students and technology enthusiasts and that these centers provided the opportunity to observe theoretical knowledge in the field, noting the following:

“At TÜBİTAK UME, participants were introduced to atomic clock studies through the National Time Console with the “Stop Time” event. Technical tours ranging from electromagnetics to quantum mechanics were organized in many laboratories. TÜBİTAK MAM held full-day scientific events every weekday, from molecular modeling to wind energy, from DNA modeling workshops to solar panel space station studies. TÜBİTAK BİLGEM with a focus on open source software and Pardus “Gençtek” events were organized, young people were introduced to the TÜBİTAK RUTE Engine of Excellence Center in Gebze through institutional promotions and technical trips, and artificial intelligence conferences and laboratory visits in the fields of material, textile and food agriculture were held at the TÜBİTAK BUTAL campus.

The statement recalled that a 20 percent discount was applied to all TÜBİTAK books at “yayinlar.tubitak.gov.tr” and in sales offices throughout the week in order to increase access to scientific publications, and the following expressions were used:

“With the award-winning live quiz competitions organized through the Bilim Genç platform, young people were actively encouraged to participate in scientific studies. In addition, the TÜBİTAK workshops, the TÜBİTAK store and the “Beyond the Horizon” exhibition set up as part of the “Ramadan in the Complex” events continued to entertain their visitors with interactive science shows.”
