According to TÜBİTAK, the application for the Mediterranean Research and Innovation Partnership Program (PRIMA) tender has been opened.
The aim of the call is to support international projects with multiple partners on the topics of water management, food systems and the value chain between agriculture and food in the Mediterranean region. In this context, the projects to be supported were divided into two parts. The project proposals received in the first part are supported by funds allocated to the PRIMA program from the Horizon Europe program.
This section covers the institutionalization and scaling of the Mediterranean WEFE Nexus Community of Practice for decentralized brackish water desalination for climate-resilient and resource-efficient agriculture in the Mediterranean, next-generation sustainable and alternative animal feed for circular and resilient agricultural systems in the Mediterranean, sustainable in-situ transformation/processing of perishable Mediterranean agri-food products, and cross-sector governance and policy adoption.
The second part consists of 3 topics
In the second part, project proposals are supported by funds provided by national funding organizations for the PRIMA program.
In this section, research teams in project consortia must also apply to their national funding bodies in addition to the joint application to PRIMA.
It is important that projects in this area include “water management” proposals that use ecosystem functions to protect and restore seasonal flows in the Mediterranean and improve water distribution.
The “Agricultural Systems” area will receive project proposals for new remote-controlled and non-invasive information and communication technologies for monitoring and controlling systems against disease and pest infestation.
Projects on the topic of “Agriculture-Food Value Chain” are looking for solutions to strengthen Mediterranean food value chains through context-sensitive digital traceability.
Application conditions
If there is more than one partner from Turkey in the same international project, a single application will be submitted jointly to the TUBITAK 1071 funding program. In the national project application to be submitted through the TÜBİTAK project application system, each partner must be separately defined as an executing organization under the “Executing Organizations” tab.
Project duration and budget

As part of the call for proposals, a grant of up to 475,000 lira in total per executive organization can be requested, of which a maximum of 175,000 lira for travel to participate in scientific meetings such as congresses and conferences at home and abroad and a maximum of 300,000 lira for travel to activities such as study visits and networking between project partners.
Higher education institutions, training and research hospitals, public institutions and organizations will be supported 100 percent, large private organizations 60 percent and SMEs 75 percent based on their approved budgets.
Items supported include personnel, consulting and service procurement, tools, machinery, equipment, software and publication purchases, materials and supplies, and domestic and international travel expenses.
