Gökmen Space Aviation Training Center (GUHEM), established under the leadership of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) with the support of TÜBİTAK, hosted nearly 1 million visitors in 2025.
According to BTSO's written statement, GUHEM has completed a year of interactive experimental setups, professional simulators, science communicator-facilitated workshops, science shows, interviews, science café events and family-involved organizations.
From preschool through high school, students participated in hands-on training in aviation, space technologies and astronomy.
International students also took part in GUHEM's training programs as part of projects with countries such as Azerbaijan, Russia, the Netherlands and Nigeria.
More than 500 training sessions were conducted in more than 80 schools within the framework of projects for vocational high schools, science high schools and village schools in Bursa. After the training, solar and night observations were carried out with telescopes accompanied by astronomers.
The GUHEM Teacher Network brought teachers from different industries together under one roof. In 2025, teachers' knowledge and experience in space and astronomy were promoted with 174 online and in-person training courses. In addition, studies on the secondary school curriculum have been carried out as part of teacher training programs.
National and international events were organized
Under the leadership of GUHEM, the national coordinator of Space Week in Türkiye, more than 5,000 events were organized across the country with large participation from primary schools to universities.
GUHEM has brought science to all sectors of society with its space and aviation experience areas established in many organizations such as TEKNOFEST, Sky Observation Event, Bilimfest, Turkey Innovation Week and Turkey E-Commerce Week. On special days such as “Total Lunar Eclipse” and “Longest Night”, joint observations and events were organized with national and international actors.
Turkish astronauts Alper Gezeravcı, Tuva Cihangir Atasever and Gökhan Erdem met with students and families at GUHEM throughout the year and shared their experiences.
Events such as “Perseid Meteor Shower,” “Nocturne: Night by Night,” “Interactive Science Theater,” and film nights were among GUHEM’s brand organizations.
GUHEM received the title of “Accessible Center” thanks to its accessible architectural design, visual and acoustic support systems and comprehensive consulting services.
“It became a center that was followed with curiosity by participants of all ages.”
BTSO Chairman İbrahim Burkay, whose views were included in the statement, noted that GUHEM is a strategic vision project that serves Türkiye's long-term development goals.
Burkay explained that her main vision when founding GUHEM was to prepare children and young people for the rapidly changing world and the jobs of the future:
“GUHEM's main mission is to raise early awareness of high value-added areas such as space and aviation, transform curiosity into a lasting learning culture and lay the foundation for qualified human resources. GUHEM became a center in 2025 that participants of all ages followed with curiosity. The fact that we have hosted almost 1 million visitors at GUHEM shows that this vision has found strong resonance in all sectors of society.”
Burkay pointed out that science and technology played a central role in Bursa's transformation process, stating that the city continues its path with the vision of a city that combines its productive power with knowledge, technology and innovation.
