The governor's written statement said that eight Israelis usurping Palestinian land attempted to enter Masjid al-Aqsa through the Lion Gate, and that these people were carrying a goat, three doves and tefillin (the box containing verses from the Torah) used in the ritual.
The statement emphasized that this initiative represents a dangerous escalation in the ongoing and increasing violations against the settlers and is not only an individual intervention, but also part of an organized campaign of desecration of the holy site, Judaization and the imposition of neo-colonial realities in favor of Israel.
The statement noted that these violations constitute a clear crime and a clear violation of all rules of international and humanitarian law, as well as a clear attack on the sanctity of Masjid al-Aqsa. It was also emphasized that Masjid al-Aqsa, with its area of 144 decares, is a place of worship belonging only to Muslims and that attempts to impose Israeli sovereignty on Masjid al-Aqsa are invalid and will be rejected.
The statement said that the violations were committed with the support and instigation of the Israeli government and that in the minds of Israelis, sacrificing means sacrificing a small goat or sheep at Masjid al-Aqsa and that they are trying to enforce Torah rituals there.
According to the Wadi Hilwa Human Rights Information Center in Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque guards managed to resist the Israelis who tried to bring the victims inside, and the Israelis in question were arrested by Israeli police.
The Jerusalem governor's statement said: While 215 settlers raided Masjid al-Aqsa yesterday, 565 tourists entered Al-Aqsa through the gate designated by Israel for tourists.
The attempt by Israelis usurping Palestinian land to raid Masjid al-Aqsa was filmed yesterday.
A chase was observed between some Israelis and security guards who ran into the courtyard of Masjid al-Aqsa.
Israelis trapped in the temple courtyard were brought out under the supervision of Israeli police.
Also notable was that the Jewish settlers who usurped Palestinian land tried to smuggle live pigeons in a cloth bag.
According to the peace agreement signed between Israel and Jordan on October 26, 1994, Al-Aqsa Mosque is under the auspices of the Jerusalem Islamic Foundations Administration, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Sacred Affairs.
