In a statement on its website, the company shared details of the “Suncatcher Project,” which it implemented to bring artificial intelligence calculations to space.
The statement said that a solar panel in the right orbit could be eight times more efficient than on Earth and produce energy almost continuously, and noted that space could be the best place to scale artificial intelligence calculations in the future.
The statement noted that the system envisaged by the Suncatcher Project will consist of a constellation of networked satellites that will be constantly exposed to sunlight.
The statement emphasized that several technical obstacles must be overcome for this system to be applicable and explained that in this context, intersatellite connections will be established at the data center level.
The statement said that the article, titled “Towards a Space-Based, Highly Extensible Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure System Design,” laid the foundation for the space-based artificial intelligence infrastructure of the future and that two prototype satellites are scheduled to be launched by early 2027.
