Forged passports and ID cards are not allowed at the Kapıkule border gate

Teams from the Edirne Police who check the travel documents of passengers passing through the border gate send the documents they find suspicious to the Travel Document Verification Office.

Police officers who are experts in their field detect possible forgeries using the forensic document checking device “Forensic XP-4010D”, which was developed by TÜBİTAK in 2009 and is constantly updated.

The device, which reveals whether all types of documents and documents are fake or not, can enlarge images up to 10 times.

The device, which scans documents using various methods such as point light, coaxial and infrared light, can detect forgeries and alterations to documents, including ink differences.

In Kapıkule, where thousands of passengers pass every day, police teams discovered 90 fake documents between January and November this year.

“There are also situations that the human eye cannot detect.”

Yusuf Dağ, a police officer at the Travel Document Examination Office, said that travel documents, passports and ID cards would be issued in accordance with the established international standards.

Stating that the quality of the materials used in the documents as well as the codes and software is important, Dağ said, “While documents have security features that can be visually detected, there are also cases that the human eye cannot detect. In this case, we're trying to detect fake documents using a device that can enlarge the document 10 times.”

Dağ emphasized that the device developed by TÜBİTAK and updated as necessary makes a great contribution to detecting fake documents.

Dağ stated that they would not allow illegal crossings by detecting fake documents:

“The device developed by TÜBİTAK makes our work easier. During the checks that our friends carry out on the platforms, the documents they suspect reach us. With the help of this device we carry out measurements with ground, horizontal, point, UV and infrared light. “We photograph the color differences and take legal action if the document is fake.” “We deliver it to the necessary places.”
