Hakkı Alkan said: “When you come across an artificial intelligence proposal, instead of immediately accepting this proposal, ask: 'On what data was this result presented?' “We have to ask,” he emphasizes, emphasizing the importance of questioning the technology.
“Artificial intelligence is not just a black box, we need to understand what is inside, what data it processes and what results it gives us. If we do not understand this technology in detail, the decisions it offers can be wrong and we can follow these wrong results and make wrong decisions.”
Alkan also draws attention to the security aspect of artificial intelligence and states that how data is processed and privacy is also important. “Using technology alone is not enough, it is also important to question it. If we don't know how it works, we are just users. But if we understand them, we become more conscious individuals,” he says, summing up the impact of artificial intelligence competence on our lives.
“You may have noticed that the suggestions you encounter when entering shopping sites or the content you see on social media are special to you. Why are you being offered these suggestions? Training in artificial intelligence is a must for future technology users
As artificial intelligence advances rapidly in the world of technology, children and young people are the most important part of this transformation… But how should we prepare them for this area? Hakkı Alkan warns critically on this issue:
“Children and young people will be the technology users and creators of the future. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare them for this area now. The most fun way to understand artificial intelligence is to teach it through action and experience. Organizing programming workshops, robotics projects or events that allow them to develop simple artificial intelligence applications, “It will allow them to better understand this technology.”
Hakkı Alkan also says that artificial intelligence will break the rules in the education system.
“Artificial intelligence has the power to radically change education. In the traditional education system, everyone has to progress at the same pace at the same time. However, thanks to artificial intelligence, it is possible to offer every student a special learning experience.”
For example, an artificial intelligence-based education platform can identify which subjects the student is struggling with and offer specific course content accordingly. This creates a personalized learning process. In other words, it allows everyone to learn at their own pace and according to their needs. “These systems, which focus on the subjects they are struggling with or allow them to study certain subjects over and over, can be incredibly useful in meeting students’ deficiencies.”
Alkan points out that another advantage of artificial intelligence is that it reduces the burden on teachers: “It can automate time-consuming tasks such as homework and exam evaluations for teachers. This allows teachers to provide more personalized attention to students.” At this point, artificial intelligence can be used as a tool to support teachers rather than replace them.
“Turkey’s future is hopeful”
What is the state of competence in the field of artificial intelligence in Turkey? Technology journalist Hakkı Alkan answers this question: “Unfortunately, we are not yet at the desired level in this area.”
Alkan pointed out that there are studies in the technology sector in Turkey and universities and start-ups in particular are doing good work in this regard, emphasizing that these developments should be disseminated in society. “Everyone, not just those who are deeply interested in technology, must have an idea about this topic.
