Abdulhamid Han completed a year on the drill ship “Blue Homeland”

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the drillship Abdülhamid Han, Türkiye's fourth drillship, was added to the inventory of the Turkish Petroleum Joint Stock Partnership (TPAO) in 2022.

Abdülhamid Han, a 7th generation deep-sea drilling vessel, can operate in a water depth of 3,650 meters and a maximum drilling depth of 12,120 meters. The 238 meter long and 42 meter wide ship stands out for its technical equipment and equipment.

6 drillings in the Black Sea

Abdulhamid Han, whose first deployment location was the Mediterranean, conducted his first drilling in this region in the Yörükler-1 well on August 10, 2022. The ship also carried out drilling activities in the Taşucu-1 and Akseki-1 wells in the Mediterranean Sea.

The ship sailed to the Black Sea to support work in the region and conducted its first drilling in the Black Sea in the Amasra-4 well on November 9, 2024. Last year, in addition to the Amasra-4 well, Abdülhamid Han also completed drilling work in the Türkali-19, Türkali-23, Türkali-27, Türkali-28 and Göktepe-3 wells in the Black Sea. Abdulhamid Khan is currently continuing his drilling operations in the Black Sea.

The statement said that Abdülhamid Han made an important natural gas discovery in the Black Sea during his tenure, saying: “Abdülhamid Han, who started work on the Göktepe-3 well on March 27 this year, made a new natural gas discovery of 75 billion cubic meters in the Göktepe-3 well on May 17, 2025. With this amount, the natural gas needs of residential buildings in Türkiye can be met for about to be covered.” 3.5 years and the natural gas discovery in question can be achieved.” Its economic value is estimated at $30 billion.

Fourth largest fleet in the world

By increasing the number of drilling ships to six and adding two new ships to the inventory, Türkiye has become the country with the fourth largest energy fleet in the world. The energy fleet's deep-sea drilling vessels Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni and Abdülhamid Han are currently operating in the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea.

One of the 5th and 6th drillships newly added to the national energy fleet will be deployed in the Black Sea and the other in the Mediterranean. While the seismic research vessel Oruç Reis prepares for its new mission in Filyos, the seismic research vessel Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha is deployed in the Black Sea. Türkiye's energy fleet includes deep-sea drilling and seismic research vessels as well as 11 support vessels, a construction vessel and a floating production platform.
