A local road safety solution has been recognized by secondary school students

A project called “Intelligent Traffic Light Voice Alert System” was prepared by 7th grade students Vahide Erva Akbaş, Asım Cihan and 6th grade student Yiğit Buğra Errugan under the supervision of Yunus Emre Secondary School mathematics teacher Aylin Dağ.

As part of the application, short-range high-frequency transmitters integrated into traffic lights warn the driver by sending a signal to the receiver module in the vehicle when the traffic light turns red. This is intended to prevent red light violations and possible traffic accidents.

Headmaster Raci Ateş stated that she was satisfied with the success of her students and said that the majority of the school's students received mobile education.

Ateş emphasized that they always support students and said: “We stand by our students and teachers. We provide necessary support to such projects. Hopefully we will try to make better and more beautiful projects.”

The project increased students' confidence and beliefs

Project advisor, mathematics teacher Aylin Dağ said that the idea came from Yiğit Buğra during a brainstorming session when she talked about traffic accidents in the robotics coding course.

Pointing out that his students worked on the project for a year and were rewarded for their efforts, Dağ said: “Thanks to the project, we saw that our students' self-confidence improved, that an idea that came to their minds not only remained at the idea stage, but that their belief that they could implement it increased. It also made us proud to contribute to such a project as a result of great efforts with local and national resources.”

Emphasizing that the project aims to prevent accidents due to red light violations, Dağ pointed out that the system is a proactive signaling mechanism that warns drivers approaching the intersection according to the red light and aims to prevent violations due to distraction in traffic.

Stating that a high-frequency communication system was used in the project, Dağ said, “The system can be integrated into the existing infrastructure. It does not require additional costs and can be implemented quickly. It can be easily installed in any vehicle. We believe that it will spread quickly and its use will increase from this aspect.”

“I dedicate my success to my family”

Yiğit Buğra Erdugan, one of the students, stated that he lives in Sarıhamzalı Village in Sorgun and goes to school from there.

Erdugan explained that he took on the task of building and testing the prototype during the project phase: “Although it was difficult to commute from the village, we finally managed it. My family supported me a lot in this process, especially my father. I am very happy that I was successful in the project, I dedicate this success to my family.”

Vahide Erva Akbaş stated that she worked in the code part of the project and led the team as a team captain.

Akbaş explained that they faced great difficulties in the coding phase of the project, which they have been working on for about a year, and noted that his family helped him a lot.
