The Ministry of Industry and Technology issued a statement on the documentary film made on the occasion of the first anniversary of the sending of the first Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı to the International Space Station (ISS) within the framework of the National Space Program to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic.
Accordingly, the documentary film titled “Beyond the Horizon” was coordinated by the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry, TUBITAK and the Turkish Space Agency (TUA).
Gezeravcı, who was selected from a total of 36,000 people by passing demanding physical and psychological tests, conducted 13 different experiments on the ISS on a wide range of topics such as biology, medicine, materials science and genetics, making history as the first manned space probe of the Turkey space mission. The prepared documentary will bring this historic turning point to the screen with behind-the-scenes processes.
The documentary follows every phase of the mission up close, from the selection of astronauts to training programs in four different countries, from experiments conducted in space to the return operation of the AX-3 space mission crew to Earth.
While the documentary explained NASA and AXIOM Space's space operations with the most authorized names, the video diary of the first Turkish astronaut was also included. The documentary also recounted the journey of Tuva Cihangir Atasever, who took over the torch from Gezeravcı and conducted a suborbital research flight.
4 countries, 12 cities and 280 hours of footage
During the two-year filming process for the comprehensive documentary, a 15-person team led by Burcu Camcıoğlu recorded 280 hours of footage in 12 cities in 4 countries.
Gezeravcı's footage of time spent in space, as well as images from NASA and the AXIOM Space team, were used and more than 20 interviews were conducted. The documentary, which took about a year to prepare, will meet audiences as a 90-minute production that will capture the most important moments of the entire process in history.
The documentary, which chronicled the experiences of Turkey's first astronaut and his scientific activities on the ISS, also explored the importance of space exploration for humanity.
The encounter with the audience takes place via digital platforms and television channels.
A gala screening of the documentary, along with the prepared exhibition, will take place tomorrow evening at Istanbul's Ataturk Cultural Center. The documentary will then be presented to the audience at 00:00 on the screens of TRT 1. The documentary will also be presented to the public through digital platforms and television channels.
