The “Ministry Regulation Amending the Regulation on Maximum Residue Limits of Pesticides in the Turkish Food Code” came into effect after it was published in the double edition of the Official Gazette.
According to the ministry, the amendment to the regulation updated the maximum residue levels to be applied in official controls of domestically produced and imported foods.
Current national and international scientific assessments were taken into account when setting the limit values for fresh fruit and vegetables, legumes, grains, teas and herbal teas as well as animal foods produced in the country.
While residue limits have been set for the first time for some foods, the limits for many foods have been lowered. Compliance with European Union practices has thus been achieved.
The regulation made major changes to the maximum pesticide residue limits for imported foods. The changes were made taking into account the EU regulation regulating maximum residue levels for pesticides.
In this context, imported foods are checked according to the new residue limits and are allowed to be imported into the country.
