In his statement to Russian state broadcaster Rossiya-24, Siluanov spoke about the use of digital assets and cryptocurrencies in Russia.
Noting that Russian companies can use digital assets to pay for delivered products, Siluanov said: “Bitcoins obtained through mining in Russia can be used in the experimental process (for international payments). Such payments have started,” he said.
Stating that this payment method should be further developed and expanded, Siluanov said: “I think this will definitely happen next year,” he said.
While there are no restrictions on purchasing cryptocurrencies in Russia, the use of these cryptocurrencies as a means of payment within the country is prohibited.
The decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 8 made the experimental use of cryptocurrencies legal in international payments and foreign exchange transactions.
