TEKNOFEST champions compete in the TEKNOFEST Champions League

The event, whose communication partner is TRT, will be held at Adana Airport under the main leadership of T3 Foundation and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the participation of 128 institutions, including public institutions, technology giants, universities and media organizations.

The winning teams of the TEKNOFEST technology competitions will compete in the TEKNOFEST Champions League, which will be held for the first time in TEKNOFEST Akdeniz.

The four-day competition will be a grand competition pitting teams against each other who develop innovative solutions in line with the principles of justice and mercy. Teams compete by showcasing their skills in surprise titles.

In the TEKNOFEST Champions League, where the final presentations will take place on October 5, a total of 1 million lira will be awarded, including 500,000 lira for first place, 300,000 lira for second place and 200,000 lira for third place.

Determine wildlife populations with artificial intelligence-powered thermal imaging

Afyon Kocatepe University's “AKÜ ROBİLSA” team, which exhibited its project in the TEKNOFEST Champions League, aims to detect wild animals with its project “Determination of Wild Animal Population Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Capable of Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Thermal Imaging.” .

Responding to the questions, team member Savaş Özbey said that the starting point of the project was counting wild animals using very traditional methods.

Özbey explained that these counting methods are done through naked eye observation, observation with binoculars or detection by sound:

“We decided to bring this part in line with technology and start our work with artificial intelligence-assisted thermal imaging drones to be more scientific and make it a scientific report. To do this, we had to collect a large amount of data. We wore.” Using artificial intelligence, we learned about 351,560 animal images. In this direction, using a thermal imaging camera, we were able to determine whether and how many of them the animal indicated was a red deer, a red gazelle or a wild sheep. These animals were in the area where they were found.

“1.5 Adana Youth Center Hydromobile Team” is also exhibiting its products in the TEKNOFEST Champions League with the electric vehicle they developed.

Team member Barış Can Yarımpabuç explained that as Çukurova University Electric Vehicle Club, the main goal of the project is to produce electric cars for a more efficient and cleaner environment by using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.

Yarımpabuç said: “With the electric cars we produce, we participate in the international Efficiency Challenge competitions organized by TÜBİTAK. Teams from many universities compete against each other in these competitions. As a result of these competitions, the most efficient vehicle comes first. We.” “We have been first in this competition for about 9 years.” “We took first place.” “All design, analysis and production are done by our team,” he said.

“We want to stop the fire before it spreads”

As part of the event, the “Tonyukuk Team” developed a technology that detects land fires early and enables effective and rapid interventions.

Team member Hamza Kemal Korkmaz said their projects mainly target fires.

Korkmaz said:

“After we have discovered the fire area, we will first check it with our drones. After that, we will send our other firefighting drones to the area and everything will be done autonomously. It is not touched by human hands. Our goal is to ensure the safety of firefighters, forestry officials and costs. “I think it is a very important project for our country. His name is Tonyukuk, as you know, he is a vizier who was undefeated during the Tonyukuk period. We chose this name.”

Kerem Ekici, another member of the team, said that in the event of a fire, smoke and heat would be detected by the cameras and an alert would appear in the system.

Ekici said: “After the alert, our FPV drones go there to process images and scan the area. After that, if the accuracy is there, our swarm drones will fly there and then we want to stop the fire before it spreads.”
