Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the “Turkish Electronic Communication Sector 3-Month Market Data Report” for the first quarter of 2024 published by the Information Technologies Communication Authority (BTK).
Minister Uraloğlu stated that BTK authorized 455 companies and 834 authorization certificates in the first quarter of 2024 and stated that the net turnover of the operators is approximately 76.5 billion liras and said, “Currently, there are a total of 8 authorized electronic certificates.” The electronic certificate service in question is “As of the end of March 2024, providers have created a total of 8.56 million electronic certificates, including 7.6 million electronic signatures and 994,000 mobile signatures,” he said.
Noting that the number of mobile connections has increased to approximately 93 million and mobile subscriber penetration has increased to approximately 108.8 percent by the beginning of 2024, Minister Uraloğlu said, “85.6 million of our citizens with mobile subscribers preferred the 4.5G subscription, which started the service in 2016.4: “We see that the 5G service accounts for 92 percent of all subscribers and the number of machine-to-machine communication subscribers has reached almost 10 million,” he said.
Noting that the total number of ported mobile numbers exceeded 179.7 million at the beginning of 2024, Minister Uraloğlu announced that 2 million 358 thousand 139 number portings were carried out in the first quarter of the year, which represents a 21 percent decrease compared to the previous 3-month period. Uraloğlu said, “From September 10, 2009, when the number portability application started in fixed networks, to March 31, 2024, a total of 2 million 652 thousand 155 number portability transactions were carried out.”
“The number of fiber optic internet subscribers is 7 million”
Minister Uraloğlu also evaluated the number of internet subscribers and emphasized that the total number of broadband internet subscribers, of which 74.4 million are mobile internet subscribers, has reached 94.2 million, exceeding the country's population by 10 percent. Minister Uraloğlu said, “There will be an increase of around 8 percent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year.”
