62 percent of the world uses social media

Instagram and WhatsApp, owned by the Meta company that also owns Facebook, are third and fourth on the list with 2 billion monthly users, and Facebook Messenger is seventh with one billion users.

YouTube, Google's online video-sharing platform, is second on the list. YouTube is used by 2.5 billion people worldwide. Elon Musk's platform X (formerly Twitter) is in 12th place with 611 million users.

6 companies from China are on the list

In addition to the 9 notable US-based companies, 6 China-based companies also made the list.

The most popular platform among Chinese social media applications was TikTok with around 1.6 billion users.

TikTok is in 5th place, WeChat is in 6th place with 1.3 billion users, Douyin is in 10th place with 755 million users, Kuaishou is in 11th place with 700 million users and Weibo is in 13th place with 600 million users. And it is followed by QQ in 14th place with 554 million users.

5 billion people use social media

According to We Are Social's 2024 report, 5 billion people, or 62 percent of the world's population of 8 billion, use social media.

The number of social media users increased by 5.6 percent year-on-year, and in 2023, 266 million new users started using social media for the first time. It is known that 5.35 billion people in the world are internet users.

On average, 2.23 hours per day are spent on social media

According to the report's data, users spend an average of 2.23 hours on social media, 1.41 hours reading books, magazines and the like, 1.25 hours listening to music and 1.02 hours playing games.

According to the report, Turkish users spend slightly more time on social media than the world average.

Turkish users spend an average of 2 hours and 44 minutes per day on social media, and they also spend an hour more on the Internet than the world average.

In terms of internet usage, Türkiye ranks 20th out of 42 countries with a total of 6 hours and 57 minutes.

YouTube is the leader with the most users in Turkey

According to the report, YouTube has the most users in Turkey with 57 million 500,000 users. Instagram comes right after YouTube with 57 million 100,000 users.

TikTok ranks third in Turkey with 37 million 700,000 users, Facebook ranks fourth with 34 million, X ranks fifth with 20 million 670,000 users and LinkedIn ranks sixth with 16 million users.
