Received a signal from Voyager 1, which had been silent for months

A traveler in the depths of space.

An explorer in the interstellar region.

The eyes and ears of people in the depths of the endless universe…

A spacecraft that far exceeded expectations and traveled 24 billion kilometers.

Those who were born when they were thrown into the endless void are now 47 years old.

Voyager-1 is still in contact with Earth.

Sent to explore planets, he reached interstellar space

The Voyager-1 spacecraft was launched into space about 47 years ago, on September 5, 1977, as part of the NASA program of the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Its mission was to study the planets in the solar system, photograph them and send them to Earth.

His term of office was 5 years.

However, neither the distance nor the time was sufficient for Passenger-1, i.e. Voyager-1.

The spacecraft, which has a life expectancy of 5 years, has been in the depths of space for almost 47 years and continues to progress.

Eyes and ears of people in the depths of space

It is currently located 15 billion miles away in the region called Interstellar.

As expected, the Voyager-1 with technology from 1977, which has been worn out for years, has been showing signs of fatigue for some time.

Radio signals containing data sent by the Voyager-1 spacecraft from a distance of 24 billion kilometers in the interstellar region reach Earth in 22.5 hours.

For five months, the spacecraft received signals whose content could not be deciphered.

It turned out that the problem was caused by a broken chip.

It turned out that the faulty chip prevented the spacecraft's computers from accessing the software code used to transmit data to Earth.

Contact again after 5 months

Experts from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) solved the problem by passing the software code to other computers on the spacecraft.

The spacecraft began sending decryptable data again.

Currently, data only exists on whether the spacecraft's computer systems are functioning properly.

The studies focus on enabling the Voyager-1 spacecraft to send decipherable data about its surroundings.

On the other hand, time reduces the spacecraft's capabilities day by day.

The spacecraft is powered by radioisotope thermoelectric generators that convert heat from plutonium into electricity. However, the process of mining plutonium causes generators to produce less electricity each year.

Voyager-1 and Voyager-2 defy the years

Voyager-1, which exceeded all expectations and traveled 24 billion kilometers, is therefore 22.5 light hours away.

In other words, if it could accelerate to the speed of light, it would take 22 hours and 33 minutes to return to Earth.

For those curious, there is the NASA Voyager-1 website. The spacecraft's progress is communicated with instantaneous data.

According to scientists, it is impossible to know how long the Voyager-1 spacecraft and its sister spacecraft Voyager-2 will survive.

What is known is that the Voyager siblings took their place as the longest-serving spacecraft in history.
