You can skip the steamed chicken soup dumplings on your next Trader Joe's run.
More than 61,000 pounds of the grocer's frozen steamed chicken soup dumplings were recalled this week because of a possible additional ingredient: plastic bits from someone's pen.
On March 2, Beaumont-based CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp. recalled the product, stating that it “may be contaminated with foreign materials, particularly hard plastic from a permanent marker.”
The dumplings in question were made in December. 7, 2023 and are packaged in 6-ounce boxes with plastic trays containing six dumplings.
In a news release, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said the possible contamination was discovered after consumers complained about dumplings containing hard plastic.
According to the USDA, there have been no reports of side effects or injuries caused by these products. However, the authority is urging consumers who already have the product in their freezer to throw it away or return it to the supermarket.
The products affected by the recall have the number “P-46009” in the USDA inspection mark. The items were shipped to Trader Joe's retail locations nationwide.

The announcement comes just a month after Trader Joe's and other grocers withdrew products containing Rizo-López Foods' Cotija cheese in response to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration recall of dairy products that may have been contaminated with listeria.
Trader Joe's items pulled from shelves included Chicken Enchiladas Verde, Cilantro Salad Dressing and Southwest Salad.
