STM will strengthen the Navy's submarines with national systems

According to the company, STM continues to participate in the modernization activities of submarines, one of the most important attack elements of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), under the leadership of the President of the Defense Industry (SSB).

An important milestone was achieved with the Preveza and Gür class submarines, which form the backbone of the Submarine Fleet Command in the Blue Homeland. The contract amendment, which added activities on half-life modernization of Gür-class submarines to the project on half-life modernization of Preveze-class submarines in the inventory of the Turkish Navy, was signed on January 17 between the STM-ASELSAN-ASFAT-HAVELSAN joint venture and SSB signed.

In the first phase, the contract aims to modernize some key navigation, engine and communication systems of the Gür-class submarines through the joint venture. The project, in which STM takes responsibility for system supply and platform integration, is expected to be completed in 6 years.

STM Managing Director Özgür Güleryüz, whose views were included in the statement, explained that the company undertakes important tasks in the areas of submarine design, construction and modernization.

Stating that they are carrying out important work on the submarines of the Navy and sister countries with their qualified personnel and engineering forces, Güleryüz said, “As part of the modernization, we continue our work to equip our Preveza and Gür class submarines with to equip the best.” Advanced systems according to the Ay class. The company takes on important tasks in projects

STM produces customized technical solutions within the framework of design, construction and modernization activities for the surface and submarine platforms of the Turkish Navy and the navies of friendly and sister countries to carry out more effective missions.

STM, which carries out tasks within the Turkish Navy's submarine modernization and construction projects, completed the modernization of two Ay-class submarines in 2015, of which it is the prime contractor.

STM is currently continuing its systems delivery and platform integration activities as a pilot partner in the modernization of four Preveza-class submarines and has served as the prime contractor in the modernization of the French-made Agosta 90B Khalid-class submarines owned by Pakistan since 2016. After the delivery of the first two submarines under the Agosta 90B modernization project, STM continues modernization work on the third submarine in Pakistan.

STM also assumes important tasks in the construction project of a new type of submarine (Reis class) equipped with an air-independent propulsion system (AIP).
